Liberia: Young Girl Refuses To Let Her Dogs Be Sold For Dog Meat
A young girl in Liberia proved that animal education programs do work. She had recently taken part in a LAWCS humane education program at school when she learned her father was planning to sell their two dogs for dog meat. She took immediate action as her father negotiated a price of US$20 for one dog, with known dog meat eaters. The young girl spoke up and refused to allow either dog to be sold.
Her father tried bribing her with the promise of a new cute puppy but she held firm and refused to change her mind. At a time when the rest of her family was busy, she secretly set off with both dogs, taking them to family relative in another village. For two days and nights she stayed hidden at a relative’s house, with both the dogs.
The young girl’s family searched frantically for two days, for her and the family dogs.
After two days the young girl’s relatives brought her and her dogs back home to her desperate family. Her father begged her not to run away again and he promised never to sell any dog again. The young girl and her dogs are all living happily together in the family unit.
Liberia Animal Welfare & Conservation Society (LAWCS) said that the young girl’s actions helped her entire village learn that animals are living beings and that compassion is powerful. They learned that animals are a ‘someone’ and not a ‘something.’

To help Vietnamese animals, please help this Vietnamese vet get the extra training she cannot receive in Vietnam. A small $2 will help her achieve this goal. With extra training she can teach fellow Vietnamese vets better ways to treat dogs and cats, which is not taught in Vietnamese vet schools: https://www.mycause.com.au/page/151374/help-fund-my-dream-vet-internship
