China: Yulin 2018, pet centric, Fight Dog Meat, fightdogmeatChina: Yulin 2018

Yulin 2018 is going ahead without debates on whether it will be cancelled. It wasn’t even questioned this year; its just going ahead with business as usual. Yulin is a stark reminder of how the animals always lose out. Words don’t capture the horror dogs, cats, geese, ducks and chickens must suffer on these trucks. It isn’t only dogs. We must not overlook the other animals also involved in the horror show. NOTE: we are ‘not’ fundraising for Yulin rescues on this article. It is published to help raise awareness.

The lead up to Yulin is so stressful, especially for animal lovers living in China. No one knows where a truck will be stopped, or when. I had various media persons contacting me wanting to know exact times and locations trucks would be stopped, so they could be there to get the story. How could they think we could possibly know that sort of information ahead of time? Staggering indifference to the incredible suffering of live animals fighting for their life.

Dogs which are crammed into small chicken cages stacked on top of each other, are forced to travel hundreds and sometimes thousands of miles, with no water or food for days. Many dogs die of suffocation. Disease is rampant. Injuries are horrific.

Most dogs on board the dog trucks are not vaccinated so therefore disease spreads like wildfire throughout the dogs. Distemper is the main killer. Dogs which may appear healthy in the first few days can quickly succumb to distemper or parvo and slowly die an agonizing death over 15 days or so. Many vets in China are against euthanizing any animal and a majority of Chinese vets refuse to euthanize at all.

A lot of fundraising takes place across social media for Yulin dogs. The main thing needed are qualified veterinarians who will administer medicine, do emergency surgeries and instruct volunteers what to do to keep the animals alive, while the vets keep working.

Yulin is a dark cloud of death which passes over. Right now the cloud is directly over everyone’s head. One of the rescue teams we wok with in China remain on standby, with vets in place to accept sick and injured dogs into the arranged vet clinics. Last year this rescue team was part of the rescue volunteers who worked on the big 619 dog truck. Myself, I have been on standby too, to join the team if a big truck was stopped again in their location.

Please remember that every day in northern China thousands of dogs are slaughtered in the big slaughterhouses in Changchun. Those dog butchers laugh themselves silly at people getting upset over Yulin.

As we pray for Yulin dogs, please remember to include ALL species of animals on those dog trucks, such as cats and birdlife. Its just as bad for them too! Right now as you read this, loaded dog trucks are heading down the roads across Vietnam. Dogs are tied to buses in Indonesia, crammed into trucks across Nigeria, and Nagaland in India, and so on.

On Saturday August 25th, 2018, Fight Dog Meat is hosting a world event to abolish the dog and cat meat trade and end greyhound exports. Please mark your calendar so you can take part on the day. If you would like to host an event in your area please email me:

I can’t believe in the 21st century that pet dogs who have done nothing to anyone and are Mens or Womens best friend are being slaughtered it breaks my heart that there is so much abuse to these beautiful animals and something needs to be done to stop it for good. I cry every day that it may end I think all countries that eat dogs and cats are evil and should have what they do to the dogs done to them or at least answer for their crimes.
