China: Dog Festival Sadness Continues
With everyone’s focus on Yulin dog eating festival, dog traffickers in Xichong country in Sichuan Province were busy selling terrified dogs which had been bound and hog-tied for hours, in the heat. Some of the dogs had suffocated to death. Some were wearing house collars, showing they were once loved pets. Its reported that dog meat in this area is falsely sold as mutton (which is aged sheep.) See the video below.
A local animal lover was able to bluff their way in and video and photograph the dogs which were in the back of a small vehicle parked on a public walkway. They were unable to save the dogs because they were alone. Videoing the dogs and photographing them in a situation they were unable to free them from, left the Chinese animal lover distraught, angry and depressed. The images allow us to expose what is taking place in Sichuan, so we are thankful to the local animal lover for being brave and videoing this horrific cruelty.

It was a harrowing day today. This morning a large dog truck was seen traveling south west, fully loaded with dogs. It probably had cats and birdlife on board too, alongside the dogs. Our team went onto full alert and began tracking the truck as it moved closer south. Chinese rescuers networked frantically all day to find ways to see if the truck could be intercepted. At the same time other Chinese rescuers kept eyes o the truck along the highway, which allowed coordinates to be located from the rescuer’s phones. Despite working hard, at the time of me publishing this article the truck has not yet been intercepted.
As the big dog truck approached Yulin the video and photographs in this article were posted onto Chinese social media. The above video is a sad reminder that we must remember all the animals in the dog and cat meat trade – not only one location or country. This same cruelty is taking place across Vietnam, Nigeria, Indonesia, Sierra Leone, South Korea, Liberia and more. We must keep pushing forward, exposing this cruelty for the world to see, to help force change, to help bring in animal protection laws and end the brutal dog and cat meat trade.
