Young people across Vietnam are turning away from eating dog and cat meat. With access to phones, tablets and/or computers, young people see worldwide revulsion against their country’s brutal dog and cat meat trade. It’s the voice and actions of Vietnam’s younger people who’ll bring positive change from within their country.
Fight Dog Meat (FDM) will keep being a voice for animals throughout Vietnam. Continuing to highlight the desperate situation of these animals not only brings world wide attention, but bolsters the resolve of young people throughout Vietnam. It’s their voice and commitment for animal protection laws that is needed for positive change to come from within the country.
Eating dog and cat meat is steeped in false superstitions handed down for generations. Dog meat is mainly eaten to boost a man’s libido. It doesn’t. Cat meat is mainly eaten at the start of each lunar month to ward off evil spirits for that month. It doesn’t. Dog meat and cat meat hold no superpowers or medicinal functions. Clever marketing by criminal elements of society have played upon local people’s superstitions and tricked them into believing their fabricated lies. Some older people rely on dog meat to relieve or cure serious illnesses and ailments, which at times has cost people their lives for refusing proper medical treatment.
Turning away or sitting quietly does not end this brutal trade. FDM will keep exposing what is taking place toward these animals. We’re helping local volunteers have a louder voice on a world platform. Ultimately it’s the voice of the country’s own people whom their government will eventually be forced to listen to, for positive change for animals.
