The market stalls I was standing in even had Tibetan Mastiff dog skin fur pelts. Not long ago Tibetan Mastiffs were seen as the most expensive dogs in the world. Now you can buy their skin fur pelts as decorative floor mats. I have (many) external hard drives of photographs and videos which I’ve taken myself in dog and cat eating countries. I have photos from the dog skin market stalls in China which I intend to make into a follow up article to this one. [Both photos in this article are not from my own photos.]
Dog skins are often purchased by wealthier customers for use as decorative throw rugs for sofa’s, decorative floor mats, as car seat covers and so on.
China’s dog and cat meat trade and China’s dog and cat skin fur pelt trade are intertwined. Slaughterhouses have no use for skins and welcome furriers to take the skins because without skins it’s less body parts to dispose of. Therefore its a win-win for butchers and furriers.
Fight Dog Meat will continue to bring you reports from dog and cat meat countries and the wonderful work their rescuers are doing despite no animal protection laws. Turning away or sitting quietly does not end the trade. We’ll keep exposing what is taking place to these animals. We’re helping local volunteers have a louder voice on a world platform. Ultimately it’s the voice of the country’s own people whom their government will eventually be forced to listen to, for positive change for animals.
