“You can get dog meat in a lot of your Christian restaurants called Manado Restaurants and Batak restaurants,” says Pastor Sparks in response to a question about food in Indonesia. “I’ve not had problems eating dog. The Batak people (Christians) like to cook dog in blood. The Curry-Bum bum for cooking Manado dog is really good.”
In 2016 Fight Dog Meat shared two of Sparks videos promoting his love of dog meat. Sparks videoed his wife cooking large pans of dog meat ready to be served to his bible study group. “I love the food” he said and called his videos “educational.” His second video showed the dog meat “cooked and ready for his bible study group” to enjoy. In Sparks own words: the bible study group runs for an hour from 7-8pm and afterward everyone “has a time of fellowship” eating dog meat.
In 2016 Sparks proudly boasted he conducts weekly christian bible study groups which are followed by free dog meat for participants. Sparks buys his supply of dogs from people’s houses, or the local dog market; either is fine with him. When Sparks saw Fight Dog Meat had shared his videos he panicked and deleted them.
“I’ve eaten cat meat. To me it does not taste much different than dog meat. Dog and cat are both cooked very spicy,” said Sparks.
Tomohon market in Manado, Sulawesi, is known for the most brutally cruel slaughter of dogs and cats in Indonesia. These are the butchers which Pastor Steve Parks promotes.
A foreigner asked Sparks “What does dog taste like bro?”
Pastor Sparks replied: “For me it taste like beef. I like more how the Manado people cook it very spicy. Batak people like dog also but they cook a different recipe with the dogs blood. For me the Manado cooking of dog is much better.”

Fight Dog Meat will continue to bring you reports from dog and cat meat countries and the wonderful work their rescuers are doing despite no animal protection laws. Turning away or sitting quietly does not end the trade. We’ll keep exposing what is taking place to these animals. We’re helping local volunteers have a louder voice on a world platform. Ultimately it’s the voice of the country’s own people whom their government will eventually be forced to listen to, for positive change for animals.
