Vietnam's Step Forward
A handbook of reference material relating to animal welfare has been compiled by Vietnam’s Board of Deputy Affairs. According to Vietnam News the handbook primarily focuses on animal policy and social awareness in relation to animals. Legislators were a main part of the panel formulating the book.
National Assembly delegates and state agencies now have the handbook at their fingertips to serve as a reference point in making animal management decisions.
Contents of the book also propose areas of animal management needing improvement when compared to international animal welfare standards. It also includes measures to monitor the implementation of policies and laws concerning animals. Source: Vietnam News
Behavioral change is never easy.
The handbook provides guidance and protection needed for companion animals (dogs and cats) against abusive behavior toward them. This includes the need for social awareness to reduce the dog and cat meat trade.
The handbook is published on the Training Center for Elected Representatives website under the Standing Committee of the National Assembly. Source: Vietnam News
FDM thoughts in conclusion.
“Until Vietnam’s dog and cat meat trade is ended Vietnam’s global reputation remains tarnished. Our hope is that one day Vietnam will follow Hong Kong’s lead and end it’s dog and cat meat trade in a blanket ban; just as Hong Kong did. Hong Kong remains our beacon of light for the future,” said Michele Brown, Founder of Fight Dog Meat.Â

Vietnam: dog traders with dogs for slaughter as dog meat.
Fight Dog Meat will continue our rescue, rehabilitation and adoption work, helping Vietnam’s animals in critical need. Turning away or sitting quietly does not end the hideous meat trade. FDM will keep exposing what these animals are forced to endure. Ultimately it’s the voice of the country’s own people whom their government will eventually be forced to listen to, for positive change for animals. It’s mid-year 2025 and still no animal protection laws for Vietnam. No excuses left.
