A commercial cat slaughterhouse was raided by police and veterinary officers on March 16th. Authorities discovered over 2,400 LB (1,100 kg) of semi-frozen slaughtered cats (over 1 ton of semi-frozen cat meat.) 190 live cats were discovered crammed inside low plastic crates stacked on top of each other. The slaughterhouse is in Hoa Long commune, Lai Vung district, Dong Thap province, Southern Vietnam.
Butchers intending to store meat for human consumption in cold storage, must have an officially issued Certificate to show they passed compliance to hygienic standards and conditions. Slaughterhouse owner Mr. Nguyen Huy Quyen failed to have any mandatory official documents.
One Month Earlier
One month earlier on February 16th, police and veterinary officers attended the slaughterhouse to inspect Nguyen Huy Quyen’s documents. He had no official documents! Inside the slaughterhouse authorities discovered 4 tons of slaughtered cats in semi-cold storage. There was also innards and entrails scattered everywhere of the 4 tons of slaughtered cats. Authorities uncovered one fully loaded truck with 480 live cats crammed on top of each other, squashed into plastic crates stacked high on the truck.
Following the gruesome discovery on February 16th, police and veterinary officers issued an “administrative violation” against Mr. Nguyen Huy Quyen. He was fined $485 USD (10 million VND.)
Note: there are no animal protection laws in Vietnam. So consequently Nguyen Huy Quyen only received fines for administrative violation. No fines at all for deliberate inflicted torture and cruelty of all the cats, dead or alive, in his premises. Disgusting and unacceptable in 2023!
According to reports: “To date this establishment continues to violate” [laws and regulations.] Mr. Nguyen Huy Quyen’s commercial slaughterhouse continues to operate without restraint!
In Conclusion
Fight Dog Meat will continue exposing what is happening to the animals and the struggles imposed on local animal lovers. FDM is helping local animal lovers have a louder voice on a world platform. Ultimately it’s the voice of the country’s own people whom their government will eventually be forced to listen to, for positive change for animals.
